Hello! My name is Mrs. Laska (formerly Ms. Flegal) and I live in Jamestown, NY. I attended college at JCC and then Kent State University as a fine art major specializing in painting and sculpture. After realizing that I spent much of my time helping classmates, I decided that turning my focus to education would be best suited for me. This is a change that I am so thankful I took. Teaching art has been so rewarding and joyful, and I am eager to see the spark of learning on children's faces every day.
As a teacher, I think it is important for students to be well rounded individuals, so in the art room I try to incorporate art history, criticism, experimentation, and reflection into most projects we complete. Whenever possible, I also try to touch on the core subjects as well to make important connections to life outside the art room.
This year, I am pleased to say that I will also continue teaching in the Elementary Computer Lab! We made so much progress with our typing skills last year that we are going to continue this work as we implement a new typing program in all grade levels. For the little guys, we are also going to focus greatly on computer skills (how to use the mouse, what our coursers mean, keyboarding, safe internet usage, etc.). For the older kiddos, we will work on building general computer knowledge and Google skills as we explore various computer software programs.
If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at firstname.lastname@example.org, ext. 301 or 243, or stop in Room 209 or 118. Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!
