Members of the Westfield High School Westwinds, as select singing group from grades 9-12, recently received word that they were selected by the New York State School Music Association for a featured concert at the All-State Music Conference to be held in Rochester , NY in December of 2010.  Musical groups form elementary, middle and high schools, colleges and universities are screened in a blind audition process each spring for selection for one of three concert hours held during the All-State Music Conference.  The Westwinds submitted a CD recording made during the 2009-10 school year and will be featured in a half hour concert at the all-state event.  "I couldn't believe that we were picked, but I'm thrilled.  There are a lot of really excellent music ensembles out there, and it's humbling to think that our kids can represent the best of the best.  Groups are chosen irregardless of school size, or budget.  Only the music on the CD is judged and that makes it even a little more exciting.  Also, our handbell ensemble was just chosen for the same honor last year.  I'm really proud that we have two completely different groups that have gotten this recognition two years in a row."   Within days of receiving notification about the Westwinds, the Westfield High School Handbell Ensemble received word that they were being recommended to represent New York State at the All-Eastern Music Conference to be held in Baltimore, MD inApril 2011.  Music groups from all over the mid-atlantic through the Northeast are considered for featured performances at the All-Eastern Music Conference, which is sponsored by MENC (Music Educators National Conference), the largest professional organization of music educators in the United States.  Final Selection for the event is made in August.  Pictured are senior members of the Westfield High School Westwinds and the Westfield High School Handbell Ensemble holding the two different letters of congratulations.
